Hello Again...

After a long hiatus from blogging, due mostly to feeling like we’ve said all we had to say about moving to Belize, living in Belize, and starting and running a business in Belize, we are in the process of making some life changes and decided to start blogging again to document this leg of our journey.

After running our small jungle lodge for over a dozen years, we have decided we want more freedom to travel.  So, we have put the property on the market, and while we wait for it to sell, we are planning our next steps.

The big picture involves a plan to take an extended driving tour through the US, with the goal of hitting all the state capitals and all of the National Parks in the lower 48 states.  We don’t think we will be able to get to all of the National Parks in Alaska, but we do plan to drive to Juneau and get to as many parks as we can in that state.

We plan to do it with a flat-bed pickup and a camper, and to outfit the rig so that we can go off-road and off-grid.

When we finish this trip, we would like to use the same rig to travel through Mexico, Central America, and South America, so while some of the things we are thinking about may seem like overkill for a US tour, we don’t want to have to make too many changes for subsequent journeys.    We will do a separate post on what we are thinking for the truck, but the short story is that we are in the process of purchasing a 2010 Ford F-350 with a 14-foot flatbed.
The 14-foot flatbed
The 2010 Ford diesel engine gives us an engine that should get us all over this side of the globe, and the flatbed gives us room for a camper, our motorcycles, extra fuel and water, and a kennel-like space to make it easier to travel with our dogs...who will, of course, join us on this journey.

We don’t have any dates yet, except that once we have an acceptable offer on our property, the closing date will be the date we hit the road.  In the meantime, we are trying to think of EVERYTHING so we will be quick out of the blocks when the starting gun fires!  So if you know of anybody looking for a jungle lodge in Belize, direct them to us at moonracerfarmbelize@gmail.com.
